What’s not to like about communism? Our favorite blogtard Duncan Riley writes another eloquent post about whether bloggers should unionize. While his conclusion is that it won’t happen because of the supply of labor, there are a few other arguments against blogger unionization that he misses:
1. Unionization leads to a “minimum wage” and other restrictions that seek to limit the supply of bloggers and therefore, blogs. Hypothetically, if one could actually unionize blogging, it will just restrict the supply of blogs. Isn’t this the entire point of blogging to open up the world to allow more people to create content?
2. In a free market, people are paid what they are worth. Lowly-compensated bloggers are an indication of two things: (1) lack of market power, and (2) lack of economic earning power. I know we can’t expect simple minded types such as Duncan Riley to understand free market economics, but at least we can try to educate him. TechDumpster takes up the noble mission of this grand task - to educate Duncan Riley and other blogtards on grammar and economics. It shall be a grand undertaking, but we will try our best. Blogs don’t generate much revenue ($40 MM total by some estimates of which the lion’s share is spread amongst the Top 100 blogs) so it makes sense that bloggers don’t get paid that much. In addition, people with real skills can blog themselves. People with poor grammar and economics backgrounds should probably be replaced by someone in Bangalore who’ll do a better job for less money.
3. True bloggers are entrepreneurial and don’t work for a salary, they work for a share of revenues or profits. Blogging allows those with real talent to shine through while still flooding the world with tons of worthless content. If you are a good blogger, go start your own blog and you can build traction. If you are a worthless TechCrunch blogger on the verge of being released for your inability to churn out valuable content, you should probably publish an article on the aforementioned blog bemoaning the inability of bloggers to unionize.
