Gnomedex is another one of those stupid Web 2.0 events where the self-important bloggers come together to talk about how they can use social news sites and organic whole bean tofu curd improve the world. A Warner Music executive Ethan Kaplan summarizes it better than I could myself saying:
What was supposed to, and what I think NEARLY came out of Gnomedex is that beyond the hall of mirrors and navel gazing that is the tech sphere, there is a larger world out there that NEEDS help desperately to get it out of the situation it is in. All the Web 2.0 shit, RSS tagging folksonomy crowd-source bullshit is not going to help situations in developing countries, namely the United States of America’s own third-world.
…RSS feeds will not feed a person for a year.
Thank you. The always festive Robert Scoble blogged and vlogged about it and decided to really go for the jugular by criticizing Warner Music. Scoble instead failed completely by criticising Kaplan’s employer for one obscure incident. I’m sorry Scoble, Cam’ron has done a lot more good for the world than you ever have. He’s also far more famous and important despite being a B-list rapper. “Hey Ma” has a lot of positive messages including empowerment of physically disabled people.
Web 2.0 idiots don’t realize that logical arguments need to be countered by logical arguments. You don’t win a debate by making fun of the debater. If that were the case, we’d all just point to Scoble and ask him to lose weight and get a tan. The same would go for so many Valley blogtards including Arrington, Calacanis, etc. However, we stick to logic while the “A-list” idiots continue to fail to use it.
Sorry Scoble, you’re still a tool. Web 2.0 entrepreneurs still need to figure out something valuable to do with their lives.

Thank God someone said it! Website Tagging, To-Do Lists, and Calendars do not create additional value in the world. “RSS feeds will not feed a person for a year.” Brilliant.
Maybe if an upstanding Web 2.0 developer wanted to help the developing world they could at least start a project towards “swarming” investors to buy commodities like rice and grain for resale in Africa. Oh wait, a single commodities trader who knows what he or she is doing can already do it better. Damn Internet.
I am glad I am not the only one spewing comments on an almost ghost blog, aaron. While TC’s commentary continues to spiral downward with trackback-crap (at least it is separated) and “great post” w/ blog link, TC is becoming part of every tech-related blogs’ SEO activities. Not that I have an issue with blog/site linking, but not without something of merit to contribute.
@Jay, maybe it is because I don’t know anyone that likes to talk about and knows something (follows) web technology, disruptive business concepts, and entrepreneurial opportunities? Probably, but I like what I see could happen at ‘the dumpster’. Now, if only the focus on some of the A-list “blogtards” could be reduced, it would lend credence to this *place*. A references to others’ opinions and some analysis contained within a single sentence would suffice. But keep it coming.

I agree. We need to reduce the focus on bloggers and focus more on stupid web sites. Thanks for the feedback.
