I love the perspective, instead of all the cheerleading we see on the other sites.

How about a blog entry startups that you do like and see going somewhere?

Yeah Jay I arrived at pretty much the same conclusion; no one wants their Facebook profile cluttered with sloppy AdSense garbage. I came up with three different monetization models that I thought made sense but if J-Squared is has a contextual advertising network that's generating that much revenue then I need to figure out what it is they're doing.

Here is my article on the subject: http://www.ajaxninja.com/?p=86

@ Li and big boy

Thanks.

@ Dave

I most probably am. We need more writers on here. I'm getting too busy with start-up stuff.

@ Aaron

Facebook's biggest mistake in history will be allowing ads on the platform pre-sale. Before ads, everyone could pontificate on the ways Facebook would monetize. After opening it up to ads, we no longer pontificate, we see. The results suck. Facebook won't monetize well. The original Facebook crowd is decreasing their usage - it'll be interesting to watch as people get bored in a few years.

Making money using targeted ads in a Facebook application? I didn't even think that was feasible... I'd like to learn a bit more about their Facebook applications if that's the case, because I mused in one of my articles on Facebook monetization that I didn't think that sustaining revenue with targeted ads is possible. If it is true then I need to write a major update.

hmmm. as with Y Combinator, i think you're just painting too broad a swatch with the criticism brush.

EventVue has some work to do, but they're scrappy and there is clearly an opportunity to make money. (if you can't figure it out, i'm not telling)

Search2Phone is an interesting way to provide targeted lead-gen to small service providers, and it addresses a non-tech savvy market.

supposedly J^2, KBLabs are killing with their FB apps, after re-tooling initial projects. as you note sounds like they are smart guys.

i haven't had the chance to speak with all of them, but they're certainly bright folks & giving it a go.

I don't have time to correctly critique this, but you have touched on some very relevant points.

I'll quit with the bigdatabase reference because we are one of like 2k orgs.

Theses Co.s are not from Boulder, just cash and summertime spent. It is not fair Jay. Fish in a barrel. I'll be back.
